Hoffenheim consider bringing David Mokwa back from Elversberg with €3m buy-back clause

TSG Hoffenheim could move to bring David Mokwa back to the club next summer following the striker’s impressive development at SV Elversberg.

The 22-year-old forward has caught the attention of his former employers after establishing himself as an important attacking figure at the Bundesliga newcomers.

According to Sky Sport, Hoffenheim have a buy-back clause worth approximately €3 million in Mokwa’s contract, giving them the opportunity to re-sign him ahead of the 2027/28 campaign.

However, the club have not yet decided whether to activate the clause, with his continued development and the competition for attacking positions expected to influence their decision.

Mokwa joined Elversberg from Hoffenheim in January 2026 for a reported €1.3 million after struggling to secure regular first-team opportunities with the Kraichgau outfit.

He quickly established himself at his new club, scoring six goals in 17 appearances during the second half of the 2025/26 2. Bundesliga campaign to help Elversberg secure promotion.

The Frenchman has carried that form into the Bundesliga, registering two goals and one assist in eight appearances during the current season.

Elversberg could struggle to retain Mokwa

Mokwa’s rapid progress has reportedly changed Elversberg’s expectations regarding his long-term future.

According to Sky, the club no longer expects to retain the striker for an extended period given his development and growing reputation.

Hoffenheim, meanwhile, are closely monitoring his performances and remain encouraged by the progress he has made since leaving the club.

The €3 million buy-back option provides the Bundesliga side with a relatively straightforward route to bringing him back, although the availability of opportunities in their attacking department remains an important consideration.

For now, no final decision has been made, with Hoffenheim expected to assess Mokwa’s performances throughout the remainder of the campaign before determining whether to exercise their option next summer.
