Al Ahly coach Hussein Ammouta urges club to keep momentum
Al Ahly technical director Hussein Ammouta has emphasised the need for his players to maintain a winning mentality after guiding the Egyptian giants to a 1-0 victory over Al Mokawloon Al Arab in the Egyptian League Cup.
The Red Devils secured all three points in their second Group C fixture at the Cairo International Stadium, with a solitary goal proving enough to hand them victory over the Contractors.
Speaking after the match, the Moroccan tactician expressed satisfaction with his team’s overall performance, insisting that his players approached the encounter with the seriousness it deserved despite giving opportunities to younger talents in the starting lineup.
“We deal with all matches with the necessary seriousness, and we were keen to field young players from the beginning of the match, coinciding with the return of Yasser Ibrahim and Mohamed Hani to participate,” Ammouta said.
The former Morocco national team coach believes Al Ahly could have secured a more convincing victory, having controlled proceedings and created several scoring opportunities throughout the encounter.
“We succeeded in controlling the course of the match, and we wasted many opportunities. The match should have ended with us winning by at least three goals, given the opportunities that were available to the players,” he added.
Ammouta also stressed that winning remains the primary objective for Al Ahly, regardless of the competition, insisting that his team must approach every fixture with the determination to collect maximum points.
“We always look to win all matches in the various tournaments we participate in, and we treat every match as a competition in which we seek to achieve victory,” he stated.
The Moroccan coach further highlighted the extensive preparations undertaken by his technical team before every game, revealing that they analyse at least five matches of their opponents to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
“Within the limits of the available means and capabilities, we watch at least five matches of the competitor, and we always work to impose our style and way of playing during the encounters,” he explained.
With Al Ahly competing on multiple fronts, Ammouta also pointed to squad rotation as a crucial element in managing the demands of a busy fixture schedule.
He explained that the coaching staff carefully manages playing time to ensure that every member of the squad remains fit and ready to contribute whenever called upon.
Ammouta’s comments underline his determination to establish consistency and a winning culture within the squad as Al Ahly continue their campaign in the League Cup.
