Porto v Napoli: Dragons target first Champions League win as 1.97 corners market takes focus
FC Porto host Napoli at the Estadio do Dragao on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, with both sides needing victory to keep their hopes of finishing among the top 24 in the Champions League alive. The match kicks off at 20:00 GMT.
Porto have lost all three of their opening games against Manchester City, Betis and PSV and sit 34th in the league phase without a point. Napoli are 22nd on three points after beating Bodo/Glimt 4-3 in their most recent European outing.
Mahamad Sangare, presenter of the sports debate show La VAR on Burkina info TV, has provided his analysis and predictions for the game.
Contrasting domestic form
Francesco Farioli’s Porto are under pressure in Europe but have been outstanding domestically, winning all 10 of their league matches. They strengthened their position at the top of the table on Saturday with a 4-0 victory over Estoril, a result that left them eight points clear of their nearest challengers.
They had also beaten Academico de Viseu in the Portuguese Cup in the previous days, maintaining their strong run in national competition.
Napoli’s form has been less consistent. Massimiliano Allegri’s side drew 3-3 with Roma, beat Monza 4-1 and then lost 2-0 to Juventus on Sunday. After 10 league matches, they are eighth and already close to 10 points adrift of the top four.
Their 4-3 win against Bodo/Glimt ended a run of two European defeats, but Napoli remain in need of greater defensive stability.
Key players and absences
Porto have several attacking options despite their unavailable players. Gabri Veiga has scored five league goals and supplied four assists, while also opening his Champions League account on matchday two. Samu Omorodion has yet to score in Liga Portugal but has one European goal.
Pepe has five league assists, while Borja Sainz and Andre Silva have five and four goals respectively. Former Nice midfielder Rosario is also available.
Napoli continue to deal with a significant injury list. Defenders Buongiorno, Badiashile and Spinazzola have not recovered, while midfielders Favasuli and Lobotka, along with wingers David Neres and Alisson Santos, are also unavailable.
Hojlund, who has scored three goals in SA, is expected to lead the attack but is still waiting for his first Champions League goal this season. Politano has two goals and three assists in SA and has already scored in this season’s Champions League. Lang, with one goal and one assist in SA, could feature on the flank.
Midfielders Anguissa and McTominay, who have one and two SA goals respectively, are expected to be considered for the starting XI. McTominay is Napoli’s leading Champions League scorer this season with two goals. De Bruyne has four goals and one assist in SA.
Head-to-head and betting predictions
Napoli have two wins from four European meetings with Porto, compared with one victory for the Portuguese club. The other match was a draw, with seven goals scored overall. Their last encounters came in March 2014, when Porto won the first leg 1-0 before a 2-2 draw in the return match.
Statistical markets include Napoli or draw at 1.854, under 3.5 goals at 1.428, both teams to score at 1.61, Porto to score over 0.5 goals at 1.17 and more than 9.5 corners at 1.97.
Sangare’s main prediction is Porto or draw at 1.37, with Porto given an estimated 72% chance of avoiding defeat. More than 1.5 goals is priced at 1.217.
The corners prediction is also over 9.5 at 1.97. Porto have averaged 9.25 corners across their past eight matches, while Napoli average 9.6 over their past 10. The line has been exceeded in four of Porto’s eight games and five of Napoli’s 10.
The suggested correct score is Porto 2-1 at odds of 8, with Napoli also backed to score at least once at 1.17. The odds may change.
