Sambou Soumano scores as Reims defeat Sochaux to climb fourth in Ligue 2

Sambou Soumano scored his second Ligue 2 goal of the season as Stade de Reims secured a 2-0 victory over Sochaux on Monday to move into fourth place in the league standings.

The Senegalese forward opened the scoring just six minutes into the encounter, giving Reims an early advantage in their 11th league fixture of the campaign.

Soumano benefited from a well-timed pass by Ivorian midfielder Yaya Fofana before finding the back of the net to put his side ahead. His early strike set Reims on their way to an important home victory as they continued their push towards the top of the table.

The goal marked Soumano’s second league strike of the season, following his earlier contribution against Red Star in the fourth round of matches.

On that occasion, the Senegalese striker converted a penalty as Reims claimed an impressive 4-1 victory over their opponents. His latest effort against Sochaux further underlined his growing influence in the team’s attacking department.

Soumano has also contributed to Reims’ attacking performances beyond scoring goals. During the sixth round of the campaign, he provided an assist in their 2-1 victory over Nancy, demonstrating his ability to create opportunities for his teammates.

His involvement against Sochaux continued that productive run, with the forward once again playing an important role in securing three points for his team.

The victory represents another positive result for Reims as they look to remain competitive in the promotion race. Their ability to collect maximum points against Sochaux has lifted them to fourth position in the Ligue 2 standings.

Reims now have 21 points after 11 matches, leaving them four points behind league leaders AS Saint-Étienne.

For Soumano, the goal provides another boost as he looks to build on his performances and establish himself as an important attacking option for the French side.

The Senegalese forward will be hoping to maintain his scoring form in the coming fixtures as Reims continue their pursuit of the teams above them in the standings.
