Mochudi Centre Chiefs have praised head coach Reneilwe Letsholonyane after his first month in charge, with the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder guiding the club to four wins in five matches.
Letsholonyane joined the Gaborone-based side in late September and has suffered only one defeat across all competitions since taking over. His latest success came on Saturday, when “Magosi” secured a 3-1 victory against Prison XI.
Centre Chiefs general manager Owe Mmolawa said the club was encouraged by the manager’s early impact, while stressing that the team still had considerable work ahead.
“We are pleased with Coach Letsholonyane’s start. He has brought renewed energy, direction and competitiveness to the team. His initial results have been encouraging, including three consecutive victories across competitions and qualification for the African Hero Top 8 semi-finals,” said Mmolawa.
The club has also been impressed by Letsholonyane’s approach away from results, particularly as he works to establish his methods within the wider identity of Centre Chiefs.
“Beyond the results, we are encouraged by his work ethic, professionalism and the way he is gradually implementing his football philosophy to align with the broader club playing philosophy. Of course, we remain realistic.
“It is still early days, and there is a lot of work to be done. Our expectations at Mochudi Centre Chiefs are high, and we want to see sustained improvement, consistency and ultimately, silverware. We have confidence in him and remain committed to giving him the support he needs to succeed.”
Centre Chiefs chasing Gaborone United
The positive run has lifted Centre Chiefs to fourth in the Botswana Premier League, where they have collected 13 points from eight matches.
They will nevertheless need to make up ground on leaders Gaborone United. The pace-setters have won all seven of their matches and sit on 21 points, giving Centre Chiefs a substantial gap to close.
Letsholonyane’s side return to league action against BDF XI at the VTM Arena on Wednesday, 4 November.
Their next match will then bring another important test, as Centre Chiefs meet Sua Flamingoes in the semi-finals of the African Hero Top 8. That tie is scheduled for Saturday, 7 November, at the National Stadium in Gaborone.
The fixtures will give Letsholonyane an opportunity to build on his early record while Centre Chiefs pursue progress in both domestic competition and the African Hero Top 8.
