Samson Adamu leads CAF delegation to assess Kenya’s readiness for 2027 AFCON
Confederation of African Football (CAF) Secretary General Samson Adamu has arrived in Nairobi with a delegation of officials to assess Kenya’s preparations for hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The visit forms part of CAF’s ongoing inspection programme as the continental football governing body evaluates the readiness of the three co-hosts – Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda – ahead of the tournament.
Adamu and his delegation are expected to assess key infrastructure and facilities in Kenya, including stadiums, training grounds, accommodation, transportation networks and other logistical arrangements required to stage Africa’s biggest football competition.
The inspection will also provide CAF with an opportunity to engage with Kenyan football authorities and government officials on the progress of preparations and areas requiring further attention.
Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda were awarded the hosting rights for the 2027 AFCON, marking the first time the tournament will be staged jointly by three East African countries.
The competition will also represent a significant milestone for the region, which has not hosted the Africa Cup of Nations in more than four decades.
With preparations gathering pace, CAF’s assessment is expected to play an important role in determining whether the three countries can meet the required standards before the tournament kicks off.
Kenya, in particular, will be under scrutiny as it works to upgrade its sporting infrastructure and improve its capacity to accommodate teams, officials, supporters and visitors from across the continent.
The 2027 AFCON will be the first edition under the expanded hosting arrangement involving three nations, with CAF keen to ensure that all facilities and organisational structures are in place well ahead of the competition.
