Former Barcelona candidate calls Mourinho a ‘bad person’ after Racing injury incident

Jose Mourinho has been criticised by former Barcelona presidential candidate Toni Freixa after the Real Madrid manager appeared to question Alvaro Mantilla’s reaction to an injury during the match against Racing Santander.

Freixa accused Mourinho of showing a lack of respect while the Racing player was receiving medical treatment, and compared the incident with the Portuguese coach’s previous confrontation with Tito Vilanova.

Real Madrid led Racing Santander 3-0 at half-time in a match that also featured several controversial moments, including a penalty awarded to Kylian Mbappe.

Mantilla, a Racing full-back, was forced to leave the pitch after suffering a knee injury approximately 30 minutes into the game. He fell during an attempt inside the penalty area, prompting concern that he could have sustained a serious injury.

The full extent of the problem is yet to be confirmed, with a medical report expected to determine the nature of the injury.

Freixa criticised Mourinho’s conduct as Mantilla received treatment, writing on X: “Mourinho is a bad person. Mantilla suffered a torn cruciate ligament while he was making gestures suggesting that he was throwing himself to the ground.”

The former Barcelona presidential candidate continued his criticism by referring to an incident involving Mourinho and Vilanova during a match between Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Mourinho put his finger in Vilanova’s eye during that encounter, when Vilanova was assistant to Pep Guardiola.

Freixa added: “He is the same person who put his finger in Tito Vilanova’s eye. A bad person and a bad sportsman.”
