Edouard Mendy nears Al-Ahli comeback for AFC Champions League Elite meeting with Al Sadd

Al-Ahli are set to welcome back goalkeeper Edouard Mendy for Monday’s AFC Champions League Elite match against Al Sadd, according to reports in Saudi Arabia.

The Senegal international, 34, has missed the club’s recent matches because of injury but is now close to returning to the starting line-up for the fourth-round fixture, reported Saudi newspaper Al Riyadiyah.

Mendy’s potential comeback provides a timely boost for Al-Ahli as they prepare for a demanding meeting with the Qatari side. The goalkeeper is expected to be considered for selection after making progress in his recovery.

Al-Ahli spent Saturday completing recovery training at the team’s hotel in Qatar. The session was overseen by Dutch coach Marino Pusic and was intended to help the players manage their physical condition before they returned to full on-field preparations.

The team will hold its main and final training session before facing Al Sadd on Sunday. The opening 15 minutes of that session will be available to the media, in line with the arrangements made ahead of the match.

The game is scheduled for Monday, 02 November 2026, as part of the fourth round of the AFC Champions League Elite.

Al-Ahli currently sit third in the West group with seven points. Their total has come from two victories and one draw, leaving them in a strong position as they seek another positive result against Al Sadd.

A further win or draw would strengthen their position in the standings and support their hopes of progressing in the competition. The club will therefore hope Mendy can return to lead the side as they continue their continental campaign.
