Fermin Lopez put alongside Yamal, Raphinha and Mbappe after Barcelona rout

Fermin Lopez scored once and provided two assists as Barcelona returned to winning ways with a 6-1 victory over Deportivo Alaves, prompting Spanish commentator Dani Senabre to challenge those who believe the midfielder’s abilities are being overstated.

The result helped Barcelona recover from consecutive defeats by Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, while keeping them top of the Spanish league. They have 30 points, two ahead of Atletico Madrid, who they will face at the Metropolitano in the next round.

Lopez’s performance was one of the highlights of a dominant display, and his contribution did not go unnoticed by Senabre, who was covering the match for Cadena COPE.

The commentator celebrated the Barcelona midfielder’s form in a post on X, directly addressing his critics after Lopez scored from a difficult angle.

“Where are Fermin’s haters today? The ones who say that I overrate him and so on,” Senabre wrote, according to Cadena COPE.

Senabre also praised Lopez during his analysis of the match, placing him among Barcelona’s leading performers since Hansi Flick took charge.

“For me, he is one of Barcelona’s best players over the past three years, since Flick arrived,” he said.

The commentator’s assessment was based on a statistic shared on social media and attributed to journalist Pedro Martin. It suggested that only a small number of players have matched or bettered Lopez’s combined total of goals and assists.

Those players were named as Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Kylian Mbappe.

“If you add together goals and assists, the only players who match or surpass Fermin are Lamine, Raphinha and Mbappe,” Senabre said. “That is not bad company at all.”

Lopez’s display came at an important moment for Barcelona, who had lost to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid before the emphatic victory over Deportivo Alaves. The six-goal win restored their momentum and ensured they retained their narrow advantage at the top of the table ahead of their meeting with Atletico Madrid.
