Diaw sets higher standards after Al Shabab’s 6-1 victory over Al Ahli

Al Shabab goalkeeper Mory Diaw says he was not completely satisfied with his side’s 6-1 win against Al Ahli in the Saudi Arabian Pro League, despite the emphatic scoreline.

The Lions produced a dominant display in the mini-classico at SHG Arena in Riyadh on Friday, with the result coming in the 12th round of the competition.

Diaw, speaking to Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat after the match, said Al Shabab’s focus was already on securing another victory before the upcoming break.

“We work hard to win every match and we will aim to claim victory in our next game, which comes before the break,” the Senegalese goalkeeper said.

Al Shabab will travel to face Abha on Thursday in the 13th round of the Saudi Arabian Pro League. The match is scheduled for 05 November 2026.

Diaw said conceding a goal prevented him from viewing the performance as perfect, even though Al Shabab scored six times.

“I am not 100% satisfied with the match because we conceded a goal, but the most important thing in the end is taking the three points,” he added.

Firas Al-Braikan scored Al Ahli’s only goal in the 40th minute. He converted a low cross into the net beyond Diaw to deny Al Shabab a clean sheet.

Al Ahli’s next listed fixture is against Al Sadd in the AFC Champions League Elite on 02 November 2026.
