Luis Enrique became the most successful manager in Paris Saint-Germain’s history by victories after Friday’s emphatic 5-1 Ligue 1 win over Le Havre.
The Spanish coach has now overseen 127 victories in 188 matches since taking charge of the Parisian club. That moved him clear at the top of the club’s all-time managerial standings, surpassing Laurent Blanc’s previous record of 126 wins in 173 games.
Luis Fernandez is third on the list, having recorded 125 victories in 244 matches.
The milestone adds to Luis Enrique’s growing legacy at Paris Saint-Germain. He has already guided the club to its first two UEFA Champions League titles and has now established himself as the manager with the most wins in the club’s history.
Speaking after the match, Luis Enrique said he was proud to be in charge of Paris Saint-Germain and credited the club’s players and sporting structure for his success.
“This record shows how lucky I am to have these players, to be at a club the size of Paris Saint-Germain, and to work with a sporting department with whom we are all completely in tune,” he said, in comments reported by Foot Mercato.
“I am very happy to be here.”
Luis Enrique then added a typically humorous note while describing his demanding approach to management.
“As for how lucky the players are to have me, I don’t know if they are,” he said, laughing. “I am a very demanding coach and I continue to put pressure on them all the time.
“That is the approach the club deserves, and the supporters deserve.”
