Al-Shabab’s dominant display against Al-Ahli prompted large numbers of visiting supporters to leave the stadium before the final whistle in the Saudi Pro League on Friday.
Al-Ahli were guests at SHG Arena in Riyadh for the 12th round of the competition, but their afternoon quickly turned into a frustrating one as Al-Shabab continued to add to their lead.
The exodus began in earnest after 66 minutes, when Belgian winger Yannick Carrasco scored Al-Shabab’s fifth goal from the penalty spot.
Some Al-Ahli supporters had already started leaving after Al-Shabab scored their third goal in the 37th minute. That strike came from Colombian striker Roger Martinez.
More fans departed three minutes after half-time, when Brazilian forward Ricardo Matias scored Al-Shabab’s fourth goal in the 48th minute.
Al-Ahli supporters had also made their anger clear at half-time. They called for the dismissal of Dutch manager Marino Pusic and directed jeers at Saudi goalkeeper Abdulrahman Al-Sanbi.
