Zabiri sets sights on Morocco starting role as Racing Santander prepare for Real Madrid
Yasser Zabiri says he is ready to take on greater responsibility in Morocco’s attack as he seeks to earn coach Mohamed Wahbi’s trust ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Racing de Santander forward believes his performances can strengthen his case for a leading role with the Atlas Lions, while acknowledging that Wahbi will make the final decisions.
Asked by DAZN whether he could become Morocco’s main attacking option, Zabiri said: “Yes, I believe so. I work throughout the year and I hope we can continue in the same way. We will keep working until the team has the coach’s confidence, because he is the one who makes the decisions.”
Zabiri also described representing Morocco as a deeply important achievement for both himself and his family. Wearing the national team shirt, he said, had been an ambition since childhood.
“It is an honour for me and for my entire family. It was a dream I had carried since I was a child,” he said. “Now we are enjoying these moments, and afterwards we will see what happens.”
The forward has also set his sights on a strong run at the upcoming continental tournament. He hopes Morocco can progress as far as possible and challenge for the title.
“God willing, we will go to the Africa Cup of Nations and reach the furthest stage possible. I hope we win the title,” Zabiri said.
His comments came as Racing de Santander prepare to host Real Madrid next Sunday in the 11th round of La Liga.
