Gedo backs Pyramids to beat Al Ahly in Egyptian Premier League showdown
Pyramids FC assistant coach Mohamed Nagy Gedo says his side are determined to beat Al Ahly when the two Egyptian giants meet in the Premier League on November 23.
The highly anticipated Matchday Nine encounter will take place at Cairo International Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 local time.
Pyramids head into the fixture as league leaders after winning all eight of their opening matches to collect 24 points, while defending champions Al Ahly sit second with 20 points.
Speaking on MBC Egypt, Gedo acknowledged the difficulty of the encounter but insisted that Pyramids would approach the game with the intention of securing all three points.
“The upcoming match between Al Ahly and Pyramids in the league is certainly difficult for both sides. It always comes with different technical considerations, but Pyramids will play to win,” he said.
Gedo also highlighted the demanding schedule his team have faced since the last international break, having played five important matches across domestic and continental competitions.
He noted that the Egyptian Premier League has become increasingly competitive, making convincing victories difficult to achieve.
“Matches against competitors in the league are now very difficult, and no team can easily win by four or five goals,” he added.
Gedo pointed to Al Ahly’s recent struggles against Modern Sport and Zamalek’s difficulties in securing victories as evidence of the growing competitiveness of the league.
He stressed that consistent performances and tactical balance were more important than simply chasing big winning margins.
The Pyramids assistant coach also weighed in on former Al Ahly defender Wael Gomaa’s recent comments about the Cairo club’s performances.
Gedo suggested that criticism intended to reprimand or motivate players should be handled internally rather than in public.
“We all know Wael Gomaa’s intention behind the statements. When it comes to reprimanding and motivating Al Ahly players because of their declining performance, it is better for that to happen inside the dressing room,” he said.
He also defended Modern Sport against criticism following their performance against Al Ahly, arguing that the club’s impressive displays this season were not specifically aimed at troubling the Cairo giants.
“Modern Sport did not intentionally deliver a strong performance against Al Ahly specifically. The team is having a remarkable season against various opponents, and it was not right to criticise them for performing well in that match,” Gedo concluded.
