Petersen hails Dortley’s return as major boost for Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs captain Brandon Petersen says Rushwin Dortley’s return from a 19-month injury absence has given the squad a significant lift as the club seeks to strengthen its defensive options.

Known as the ‘Rolls-Royce’ among Amakhosi supporters, Dortley returned to the starting line-up after his lengthy spell on the sidelines. His comeback was warmly received by the club’s fans and gives the technical team another experienced option in defence.

Petersen spoke about Dortley’s return during Kaizer Chiefs’ Soweto Derby press conference at SuperSport Studios in Randburg, highlighting the defender’s ability and the wider importance of players recovering from long-term injuries.

‘A confidence booster’

“Obviously, we all know what Rushwin has to offer. Before the injury and all of that, we know the level he was at. And I think for us as a team, it’s always good getting players back from injury, especially long-term injuries,” Petersen told the media.

The goalkeeper said Dortley’s return was encouraging not only because of the quality he can bring, but also because of the demanding process involved in recovering from an extended absence.

“We know the quality he has, and as a team, it’s definitely a confidence booster.

“As a team, making sure that we have as many players available as possible and giving the coach obviously a good headache, making sure that we put our hands up and say, look, we’re all ready,” he added.
