Moeneeb Josephs backs Orlando Pirates to beat Kaizer Chiefs in Soweto Derby
Former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs believes his former club are better placed than Kaizer Chiefs to win Saturday’s Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium.
Josephs, who played for Orlando Pirates from 2008 to 2013, says the Buccaneers’ current form extends beyond their results and includes their unity, understanding and consistency on the pitch.
“My friend, I’m confident. We’re playing good football,” Josephs said.
He acknowledged that the derby would be a different contest, but argued that Orlando Pirates are currently operating at a higher level than their rivals.
“I know it’s a different game. I know it’s a game on its own. But I think the space that we are in at the present moment, not just results, I mean of team unity, understanding, the way the team moves, and the way we fulfil our requirements in games, is in a much better space than where Chiefs are at the moment,” he said.
Josephs also pointed to the contrasting consistency of the two sides, saying Kaizer Chiefs had not yet found the same stability.
“Chiefs are still fluctuating way too much. We’ve been stable. We’ve been solid, and that’s very, very important for us.”
Despite his confidence in Orlando Pirates, Josephs stopped short of predicting the exact score.
Asked whether he had a result in mind, he replied: “No, I don’t have a score. I’m not a Sangoma. But I have a win. I have a win for us.”
