BREAKING NEWS: Samson Adamu appointed substantive CAF General Secretary

Nigerian football administrator Samson Adamu has been appointed as the substantive General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), following his previous stint in an acting capacity.

Adamu’s appointment was confirmed after a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee (EXCO) on Thursday, making him the permanent successor to Véron Mosengo-Omba.

The Nigerian takes charge of one of the most influential administrative positions in African football, with responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the continent’s football governing body.

Adamu is a familiar figure within African football circles and brings considerable administrative experience to the role. His confirmation is expected to provide continuity within CAF’s administrative structure, having already been involved in its leadership during his time as acting General Secretary.

His appointment comes at a crucial period for CAF as the organisation continues to oversee major continental competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

Adamu’s elevation also brings an end to the transition following Mosengo-Omba’s departure from the position.

Further details regarding his appointment and the priorities of his administration are expected to emerge in the coming days.
