Raja Casablanca agree deal with Abdelkarim Jinani to become new head coach
Raja Casablanca have reportedly reached an agreement with Moroccan coach Abdelkarim Jinani to take charge of the first team following a disappointing start to the Botola Pro season under Spanish manager Paco Jémez.
According to Moroccan sports outlet Al Mountakhab, Raja’s management have agreed terms with Jinani, who is expected to begin his duties immediately.
The reported decision follows Raja’s 1-1 draw against Hassania Agadir at Larbi Zaouli Stadium on Wednesday, a result that increased pressure on Jémez after the Casablanca club struggled to secure victories in consecutive league matches.
Jinani is expected to lead the Green Eagles in their next league fixture against RS Berkane on Sunday, 1 November, as Raja seek to recover their form in Morocco’s top flight.
However, the club have yet to officially announce Jémez’s departure or confirm Jinani’s appointment.
Jinani set for return to familiar surroundings
Jinani is a familiar figure at Raja, having previously worked on the club’s technical staff and taken charge of the team during transitional periods.
The Moroccan coach also represented the Green Eagles during his playing career, giving him previous experience of the club’s environment.
According to Al Mountakhab, Jinani is being considered a temporary solution while the management works to resolve the team’s technical situation.
His immediate task will be to restore confidence within the squad and help Raja improve their results in the domestic championship.
The reported appointment would see the club turn to a coach with existing ties to Raja as they attempt to overcome their difficult start to the season.
Jémez under pressure after inconsistent results
Jémez’s position has come under increasing scrutiny following Raja’s inability to secure consistent victories in the opening rounds of the Botola Pro campaign.
Wednesday’s draw against Hassania Agadir added to the pressure, with Raja once again dropping points despite playing at home.
The club’s management is reportedly preparing to end the Spanish coach’s tenure, although no official announcement has confirmed his departure.
The anticipated change would reflect Raja’s efforts to improve their performances and regain momentum in the Moroccan league.
RS Berkane await Raja in Jinani’s expected debut
Raja’s next assignment is a meeting with RS Berkane on Sunday, 1 November, in the sixth round of the Botola Pro season.
The fixture is expected to provide Jinani with his first opportunity to lead the team if his appointment is confirmed before the match.
RS Berkane have established themselves among Morocco’s leading clubs in recent years, making the encounter a demanding test for the Casablanca side.
Raja will be seeking a positive response from their players as they attempt to return to winning ways and improve their position in the standings.
Supporters are now awaiting an official announcement from the club regarding Jémez’s future and the expected arrival of Jinani.
