Mustafa Haji has urged Brahim Diaz to consider leaving Real Madrid for the Roshn Saudi League, saying a lack of regular football could cost the forward his place in the Morocco squad.
Diaz has struggled for playing time since Jose Mourinho returned to Real Madrid at the start of the current season. The Morocco international has featured for only 210 minutes across six matches in all competitions, placing him among the club’s least-used players.
Although Diaz has impressed during the opportunities he has received and has created two goals in the Champions League, fierce competition for attacking positions has made it difficult for him to secure a regular place in the Real Madrid side.
Reports have suggested that the Saudi Football Federation is seriously considering a move for Diaz during the January transfer window and is preparing a substantial offer.
Speaking to Kooora, Haji said Diaz should accept a move if a suitable proposal arrives.
“He plays for the biggest club in the world, but honestly, I advise him to leave for the Saudi league if there is an offer,” said the former Morocco international.
Haji, who previously played in the English league, added that the standard of the Roshn Saudi League would provide Diaz with a demanding environment rather than an easy option.
“I follow the Roshn Saudi League closely. The competition includes top-level professionals and the level of competition there is difficult,” he said.
The Moroccan great also warned that continuing to be left out of Real Madrid’s starting line-up could affect Diaz’s international future under Morocco manager Mohamed Ouahbi.
“Diaz only plays a few minutes for Real Madrid, so it will be difficult to select him for the Morocco national team because, in this situation, he does not deserve to play internationally,” Haji said.
Haji said Diaz’s priority should be finding a club where he can play a more prominent role, whether in Saudi Arabia or elsewhere.
“I hope he moves to a big club in Saudi Arabia or to another league, so he has the opportunity to play more than an hour in every match,” he added.
