Kodisang’s next move crucial as ex-Sundowns midfielder seeks career revival
Finding the right club for Kobamelo Kodisang is now the priority as the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder attempts to revive his career, says his agent Mike Makaab.
The 27-year-old joined Mamelodi Sundowns from Portuguese club Moreirense in July 2024 but struggled to establish himself in the first team at Chloorkop.
He later moved to Portuguese side AVS FS on loan, although injuries disrupted his progress. Kodisang then joined Stellenbosch FC for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
After returning to the Tshwane club, Kodisang appeared to fall outside head coach Miguel Cardoso’s plans. His contract was terminated by mutual consent in September.
Makaab, chief executive of ProSport International, said the immediate objective was to secure a club where Kodisang could rebuild both his fitness and his career.
“The most important thing now with ‘KK’ is that he has worked hard in the off-season. He has been in a special programme at Sundowns, but now we’ve got to find him a home that is going to be an opportunity for him to revive his career,” Makaab told KickOff.
“This is going to be a very important six months for him.”
The agent confirmed there had already been interest from outside South Africa, with clubs in North Africa and the Middle East reportedly considering a move for the player.
However, Kodisang’s lack of regular football in recent seasons could make it difficult to secure the ideal destination. Makaab said his next club would need to understand the player’s potential and provide the conditions necessary for him to regain his fitness and match sharpness.
“We’ve had some interest in North Africa, we’ve had some interest in the Middle East, but again the difficulty is his lack of game-time,” said the veteran agent.
“We’ve got to get him in an environment where the club is going to understand his potential and work with him to get him to a certain level of fitness so that he can make a difference on the field.
“And that’s the challenge that we face with ‘KK’, not his ability.”
