Itumeleng Khune backs Elias Mokwana for Kaizer Chiefs move

Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune believes Elias Mokwana would give the club an experienced and creative attacking option if the Bafana Bafana winger joins Amakhosi.

Mokwana, 27, is a free agent after leaving Tunisian giants Esperance de Tunis last month. He spent the previous season on loan with Saudi Pro League club Al Hazem.

A proposed transfer to Wydad Athletic Club collapsed, and Mokwana has reportedly since been offered to Kaizer Chiefs. Khune has welcomed the prospect of his former club signing the winger.

“Definitely! Mokwana reminds me of Jabu ‘Shuffle’ Pule back then, formerly then, but now Mahlangu,” Khune told Andile Ncube on Soccerzone.

The former Sekhukhune United player made 38 appearances in all competitions during his time at Esperance de Tunis, scoring seven goals and providing four assists. He also won three domestic cups.

Khune believes Mokwana’s ability to take on defenders and his experience of playing in continental competition would make him a significant addition to the Kaizer Chiefs squad.

“Very skilful, he’s not shy to take on players. He can create goals; he can score goals,” he said.

“So, he’ll be a great addition to the team because of his experience, continental experience.”

The former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper also suggested Mokwana could provide guidance to the club’s younger players, particularly as the team seeks to return to continental football.

“These young boys will be looking up to him, and he’ll be holding their hands to say, ‘guys, come with me, let’s go back to continental football I know what it’s all about’,” Khune said.

“And definitely he’ll be a great addition and take the club forward.”
