Barcelona have been fined by the Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary committee after objects were thrown on to the pitch during their 2-1 defeat by Real Madrid.
Real Madrid secured an important victory in the 10th round of the Spanish league, with the incident taking place in the 87th minute as their players celebrated Kylian Mbappe’s second goal.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, the committee acted under Article 117 of the disciplinary code. The provision allows for a fine of up to 602 euros for minor offences involving a breach of order.
Several objects were thrown from the northern section of the stands, including a water bottle and a Coca-Cola can.
The incident led referee Jose Maria Martinez Munuera to briefly stop the match. He also issued a warning to supporters over the stadium’s public-address system, asking them not to repeat such behaviour.
None of the objects struck a player, but the incident was included in the referee’s report and referred to the disciplinary committee for a decision.
Barcelona remain top of the Spanish league with 27 points from nine wins and one defeat.
Real Madrid are third with 24 points, having won eight matches and lost two.
