CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup: Four former stars named draw assistants
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named four former African football stars to assist with the draws for the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
Sudan’s Mudather Eltaieb, Burkina Faso’s Alain Traoré, Tunisia’s Oussama Darragi and Cameroon’s Achille Emana will take part in Wednesday’s ceremonies in Cairo, Egypt.
The draws will be held at the Egyptian Football Association headquarters, with the Confederation Cup draw scheduled for 11:00 GMT and the Champions League draw following at 12:00 GMT.
Traoré and Eltaieb will assist with the CAF Confederation Cup draw, while Darragi and Emana will take part in the Champions League ceremony.
CAF’s Khaled Nassar will conduct the proceedings, with Ugandan sports broadcaster Andrew Kabuura serving as master of ceremonies.
The four former internationals have represented their respective countries at the highest level and will help oversee the process as clubs discover their opponents for the group stages of Africa’s two leading club competitions.
The draws represent a key stage in the continental football calendar, with participating teams set to learn the challenges they must overcome in their pursuit of African silverware.
The CAF Champions League remains the continent’s premier club competition, while the Confederation Cup offers another opportunity for teams to compete for continental honours.
The group-stage pairings will provide a clearer picture of the road to the knockout rounds as clubs begin their campaigns to secure continental supremacy in the 2026/27 season.
