PSG target Algeria midfielder Ibrahim Maza as Kvaratskhelia replacement
Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Ibrahim Maza as they consider options to strengthen their attacking department following Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s serious knee injury.
The reigning European champions are closely monitoring the 20-year-old Algerian international, who has impressed with his performances for the German Bundesliga side.
Kvaratskhelia’s cruciate ligament injury, which is expected to keep him sidelined for several months, has prompted PSG to explore potential replacements, with Maza emerging as one of the options under consideration.
The French champions could reportedly make a move for the youngster during the upcoming winter transfer window as they assess their options ahead of the second half of the season.
However, PSG are not alone in the race for his signature, with Manchester City also credited with an interest in the midfielder. The Premier League giants were reportedly monitoring Maza last summer and could renew their pursuit as competition for his services intensifies.
Bayer Leverkusen, meanwhile, are determined to retain the highly rated youngster and have already opened discussions with his representatives over a possible contract extension.
Maza’s current deal with the Bundesliga outfit runs until June 2030, putting the German club in a strong negotiating position should interest from Europe’s leading sides translate into formal offers.
Nevertheless, negotiations over an extension are understood to remain at an early stage, with an agreement still some distance away.
With PSG and Manchester City reportedly keeping tabs on his situation, Leverkusen could face growing pressure to secure Maza’s long-term future as the January transfer window approaches.
