Joao Cancelo responds with song after Barcelona suffer consecutive defeats

Joao Cancelo has posted a symbolic message on social media after Barcelona followed their defeat by Paris Saint-Germain with a loss to Real Madrid.

The Portugal defender shared a black-and-white photograph of himself viewed from behind, accompanied by the song Yo creo en mi “I believe in myself” by El Armenio.

The lyrics focus on standing firm during difficult periods, recovering after setbacks and maintaining belief in one’s own ability despite pressure. Cancelo did not add any written comment to the post, choosing to publish only the image and the song.

His message appeared to underline his confidence and determination to move beyond a challenging spell, as Barcelona attempt to recover from their latest results.

The post also continued Cancelo’s use of social media to answer criticism. After Barcelona’s match against Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes, he previously published a strongly worded response about the demands of competing at the highest level and the pressure faced by players.

“Everyone in the stands is an expert, and I would like to see them go down onto the pitch and deal with the pressure,” Cancelo wrote at the time.

He accompanied that message with They Don’t Care About Us by American singer Michael Jackson.

Cancelo’s latest choice of song again centred on self-belief and resilience rather than a direct written response. It came as Barcelona sought to regain their balance after defeats by Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

The fixture information accompanying the report lists Barcelona in La Liga action against Deportivo Alaves on 31 October 2026. It also lists Racing Santander against Real Madrid in La Liga on 01 November 2026.

Cancelo’s post contained no explicit reference to either defeat, the criticism directed at the team or his own situation. Instead, the photograph and music provided an indirect expression of his stance during a difficult period for Barcelona.

The Portugal full-back’s earlier message, published after the Paris Saint-Germain game, had directly addressed supporters watching from the stands. His latest publication adopted a more restrained approach, but retained the same central theme: players must withstand pressure and respond to adversity with confidence.

Barcelona’s two successive losses to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have therefore formed the backdrop to Cancelo’s latest social media activity, with the defender again choosing music to communicate a message of perseverance.
