Pyramids assistant coach Salem backs Mokwena to deliver Egyptian Premier League title

Pyramids assistant coach Moatasem Salem has praised Rulani Mokwena’s tactical ability, saying the players’ quality and commitment to implementing his ideas have been key to the club’s perfect start to the Egyptian Premier League season.

Pyramids have won all seven of their opening league matches to collect 21 points and move to the top of the table, raising hopes that they can finally claim the title after two successive near misses.

Salem credited Mokwena’s tactical strengths but also highlighted the squad’s professionalism and the quality of the club’s new signings.

“Mokwena is a tactically strong coach, but the players help him succeed with his training ideas,” Salem said, according to El Balad.

“We have quality at the highest level, and the team’s reinforcements meet our needs.”

Salem also provided an update on the team’s injury situation, confirming that Nazir Bouali’s injury is serious and could keep him out for around two weeks.

He described Mohanad Lasheen as the backbone of the team, underlining the midfielder’s importance to Pyramids’ ambitions this season.

Despite their impressive form, Salem warned against treating the upcoming match against Al Ahly as decisive in the title race, insisting that the league campaign remains open.

“The Al Ahly match is not decisive for the league. Pyramids now have a fan base after winning titles,” he said.

Salem is optimistic that Pyramids can turn their recent disappointments into success this season after narrowly missing out on the championship in the previous two campaigns.

“I’ve had hope since before the league started that this would be our year. Last season we lost the title by a few points, and the season before by three points. This time, third time lucky,” he added.

Pyramids will discover their opponents in the CAF Champions League on Wednesday before returning to domestic action against Wadi Degla SC on Thursday.

With seven wins from seven league matches, Mokwena’s side will hope to maintain their momentum and translate their strong start into a sustained title challenge.
