Harry Kane’s consistency and decisive contribution to Bayern Munich were key to his Ballon d’Or 2026 triumph, according to football analyst and consultant Ramiz Gouem.
The official ceremony took place in London yesterday, with the England international claiming the award after an outstanding season. The Bayern Munich striker was recognised for his finishing and sustained performance at the highest level.
Gouem said Kane’s success was deserved because of the influence he had throughout the campaign.
> “The Englishman deserved it because of his consistency,” he said.
Kane scored 73 goals during the season and helped Bayern Munich win both the Bundesliga and the German Cup. Gouem also pointed to the striker’s run in the World Cup as a factor that strengthened his case for the prize.
> “He was the most decisive and the player who had the greatest impact,” Gouem added.
Kylian Mbappe finished second with 58 goals, while Lamine Yamal completed the top three.
The consultant said the final ranking reflected three distinct attacking qualities. In Kane, he identified efficiency and reliability; Mbappe stood out for his pace and ability to take on opponents; while Yamal was recognised for his creativity and capacity to create chances for his team-mates.
For Gouem, the podium demonstrated the importance given to attacking performances when deciding football’s most prestigious individual award. Goals and assists provide clear statistical evidence, making the contribution of forwards easier to assess.
He also warned that defensive players often receive less visibility in individual awards. The impact of positioning, interceptions, duels won and tactical work is harder to measure than goals or assists, even though those qualities are central to a team’s balance.
> “The Ballon d’Or rewards excellence, but not every form of excellence receives the same visibility,” Gouem said.
His assessment highlighted the weight placed on attacking statistics in the voting process, while also stressing that football performance depends on collective and defensive contributions that can be less obvious.
