Athletic Club winger Nico Williams has confirmed that he turned down offers from Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Barcelona to remain with the Basque club.

The Spain international said he had no doubts about his decision to stay, despite receiving numerous offers over the past three summers.

“I never had any doubts about wanting to stay here,” Williams said at a press conference.

The 24-year-old explained that his decision was entirely his own, having chosen to continue his career at the club where he developed through the youth ranks.

Williams Explains His Decision

Williams revealed that several clubs had attempted to secure his signature but insisted that he was determined to remain at Athletic Club.

“Whether it was Barça or other clubs like PSG, Arsenal and many others, I said ‘no’ to everyone to stay here,” he said.

He also emphasised that nobody had forced him to make the decision, underlining his commitment to the Spanish club.

“Nobody held a gun to my head to make me decide,” Williams added.

His future is now tied to Athletic Club until 2035 following the recent extension of his contract.

Agent Reveals Details Behind Summer Decision

Williams’ comments echo those of his agent, Félix Tainta, who recently discussed the circumstances surrounding his client’s future during the summer transfer window.

Tainta explained that Williams had been open to the possibility of leaving the Basque Country. However, the lack of guarantees offered elsewhere eventually prompted the winger to reconsider his position.

Williams has now made his intentions clear, opting to continue his career at Athletic Club despite interest from several major European sides.
