Red Arrows coach gets brand new vehicle

Red Arrows coach Chisi Mbewe has been rewarded with a Toyota Mark X following his side’s historic qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage at the expense of South African giants Kaizer Chiefs.

The Zambian tactician received the vehicle from Zambia Air Force Commander Lieutenant General Oscar Msitu Nyoni on October 26, following Red Arrows’ impressive achievement in the continental competition.

According to reports, the Toyota Mark X, registered ZAF-4623B, has been allocated to Mbewe as an official staff vehicle to facilitate his transportation to training sessions and other professional duties.

The allocation is not a confirmed personal gift but an official resource intended to support the coach in carrying out his responsibilities.

Mbewe’s reward comes after Red Arrows produced a memorable performance to eliminate Kaizer Chiefs in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Zambian side won the first leg 1-0 at home before suffering a narrow defeat by the same scoreline in the return encounter in Durban on October 23.

With the aggregate score level at 1-1, the tie was decided by a penalty shootout, where Red Arrows prevailed 3-2 to secure qualification for the competition’s group stage for the first time in their history.

The achievement marked a significant milestone for the Zambian outfit, who overcame one of South Africa’s most prominent clubs to continue their continental campaign.

Following the team’s return from South Africa, Nyoni welcomed the squad and congratulated the players and technical staff on their success.

The Air Force commander also challenged the team to build on the historic qualification and set their sights on reaching the CAF Confederation Cup final.

The decision to provide Mbewe with a vehicle reportedly fulfilled an earlier commitment following a request from Red Arrows president Colonel Moses Kambimbi.

Red Arrows are affiliated with the Zambia Air Force, with Mbewe himself holding the military rank of Warrant Officer Class Two.

While the vehicle is intended to support his professional duties, the recognition underlines the importance attached to the team’s continental achievement.

For Mbewe, the reward follows a campaign in which his team demonstrated resilience to overcome Kaizer Chiefs and secure a place among the Confederation Cup group-stage contenders.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs must regroup after their disappointing elimination, with head coach Fernando Da Cruz turning his attention to domestic competitions as the Soweto giants seek to recover from their continental setback.
