Real Madrid prevented Barcelona from achieving a rare landmark in El Clasico history by winning 2-1 at Camp Nou on Sunday.
The result came in La Liga and ensured the two Spanish giants remained level in their overall head-to-head record. Before kick-off, both clubs had won 106 of their meetings, while 52 matches had ended in draws.
A Barcelona victory would have given the Catalan side the outright advantage in the overall number of wins for only the second time since 1932.
Barcelona’s previous lead came in March 2019, when they defeated Real Madrid to move on to 96 victories, compared with Real Madrid’s 95.
Real Madrid’s latest success denied Barcelona the chance to repeat that rare achievement and kept the historic El Clasico record tied.
