Valverde says words cannot describe Lunin’s decisive display in Real Madrid’s Clasico win

Fede Valverde praised Real Madrid’s collective spirit after their 2-1 victory over Barcelona, while saying words could not describe the contribution of goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

The Uruguay midfielder said the team’s ability to work together, withstand difficult moments and maintain possession had been central to victory in the Clasico. Kylian Mbappe scored both of Real Madrid’s goals, while Lunin made a crucial save to help secure the result.

“I feel proud of my team-mates,” Valverde told Real Madrid TV. “Everyone gives their maximum on the pitch, and that was reflected in our performance against Barcelona.”

He added: “The key was working as one team, knowing how to deal with difficult moments, keeping possession and finding a way through the opponent’s defence. We were very good, especially in the first half.”

Valverde was unable to complete the match after struggling with a physical problem. He said he had tried to continue after half-time despite feeling pain following one of the challenges during the game.

“If the team wins, I will sleep peacefully and happily,” he said.

The midfielder also described playing alongside his Real Madrid team-mates as a great honour, both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

Praise for Mbappe and Lunin

Valverde singled out Mbappe after the France forward’s two-goal performance. He said the striker works hard and deserved to maintain his form and continue scoring.

He also reserved special praise for Lunin, who made a decisive intervention during the match.

“Words cannot describe what Lunin did today,” Valverde said.

The Ukraine goalkeeper has continued to work behind the scenes despite limited opportunities, Valverde added. He said Lunin had not complained and remained ready to help the team whenever called upon.

Real Madrid’s victory was their fifth in a row, a run Valverde said had provided an important boost in confidence. However, he stressed that the squad must continue working even harder if it is to maintain its positive results and compete for trophies.
