CAF Confederation Cup: AS FAR Rabat secure group-stage place with late win over CO de Korhogo

AS FAR Rabat reached the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup after a late 2-1 victory over CO de Korhogo at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Sunday.

The Moroccan side had been held to a goalless draw in the first leg and were made to work until the closing stages before confirming their qualification.

Youssef Al Fahli gave AS FAR an early advantage, converting a penalty in the sixth minute. The goal put the Militarians ahead in the tie and provided them with a strong start in the return match.

CO de Korhogo responded after the break, however, with an equaliser from the Ivory Coast side in the 54th minute. The goal briefly put AS FAR’s progress in doubt and increased the pressure on the hosts.

With qualification appearing to be slipping away, AS FAR found the decisive breakthrough in the 83rd minute. Anas Bach scored to restore the home side’s lead, bringing relief to the crowd at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

The Militarians held on through the final minutes to preserve their advantage and complete a 2-1 aggregate victory.

AS FAR Rabat can now prepare for the group stage after overcoming a CO de Korhogo team that caused them significant problems across the two legs.
