Isak celebrates Liverpool’s first Anfield league win of the season

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak said the club’s first Premier League victory at Anfield this season had been worth the wait after their 2-0 win over Brighton.

Goals in the eighth round of the Premier League gave Liverpool all three points at home, while also securing a clean sheet against a Brighton side Isak described as being in a good run of form.

“We had been waiting a long time for a win at home,” Isak told Sky Sports. “It was great to achieve it in that way, against a team that is having a good period, and to keep a clean sheet as well. I am very happy.”

Liverpool created several opportunities in the opening half, particularly after winning possession and launching quick counter-attacks.

Isak said the home side could have added to its advantage but praised Bradley Barcola’s contribution, while explaining that his own focus was on being in the right position to finish the move.

“We had many chances in the first half after regaining the ball and breaking forward on the counter,” he said. “We could have scored more goals, but Bradley Barcola did a great job. For me, it was simply about being in the right place to finish the attack.”

Asked whether Liverpool were beginning to develop the understanding required within the team, Isak said he hoped the performance was evidence of progress.

“Yes, I hope so,” he said. “The performance was very good and well organised. The first half showed what we want to be: playing with intensity, winning the ball back and attacking on the counter.”

The result moved Liverpool to 15 points and fourth place in the Premier League table.
