Chivu tells Inter to answer refereeing decisions on the pitch

Christian Chivu has urged his Inter players not to complain about refereeing decisions, but to respond on the pitch after their 2-1 win over Fiorentina.

Inter secured a late victory at San Siro in the eighth round of Serie A, with the result keeping them unbeaten in the league since the start of the season.

The home side appealed for a penalty after Marcus Thuram went down in the area, but no spot-kick was awarded. Piotr Zielinski later converted a penalty as Inter claimed all three points.

Speaking to DAZN, Chivu said: “Before the penalty taken by Zielinski, I was thinking about all the positive things we had done today and how disciplined our performance had been.”

“We deserved to win, and I would have said that even if we had lost. The players deserve all the praise.”

Asked about the decision not to award a penalty for Thuram, the Romanian added: “The important thing is not to let your determination be affected and to maintain the same mentality.

“I do not want to see any player complaining about refereeing decisions. I want to see the players respond on the pitch when things go against them.”

Chivu also stressed the importance of maintaining their standards throughout every match.

“We have to stay committed to doing the right things on the pitch until the end,” he said. “We have shown that in all our matches except the game against Club Brugge.”

The victory moved Inter to 22 points and left them top of the Serie A table on goal difference from second-placed Lazio. Fiorentina remain on four points in 19th place.
