Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena secured a place in the CAF Champions League group stages as Pyramids extended their winning run to 12 matches with a 4-0 victory over El Merriekh.
The Egyptian side completed a 5-0 aggregate win against the South Sudan club on Saturday, comfortably progressing to the next stage of the competition.
Abdelrahman Magdi opened the scoring after 23 minutes before adding a second five minutes later. His brace gave Pyramids a commanding advantage and put the tie beyond El Merriekh’s reach.
Mostafa Fathi struck in first-half injury time, sending the hosts into the break with a 3-0 lead on the night.
Pyramids continued to press after the interval rather than settle for their advantage, and Nadhir Benbouali added a fourth goal in the 71st minute.
The result means Mokwena has won all 12 of his matches since taking charge of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League winners. He has yet to drop a point during his time in charge.
Pyramids will return to league action in five days when they face Wadi Degla. They currently hold a four-point advantage over second-placed Al Ahly, whom they are due to meet on 23 November.
