Juventus target Rennes defender Aboubakar Nagida after impressive Europa League display

Juventus have reportedly added Rennes left-back Aboubakar Nagida to their transfer shortlist after the Cameroonian impressed during Thursday’s 2-2 Europa League draw between the two clubs.

According to Tuttosport, the Italian giants were particularly impressed by the 21-year-old’s performance at the Allianz Stadium and are considering a move in either the January transfer window or next summer.

Nagida played a key role in Rennes’ attacking efforts, helping create the equaliser before winning the penalty that put the French side ahead before half-time. His energetic display down the left flank caused Juventus problems throughout the encounter.

The defender’s performance has strengthened his reputation as one of Rennes’ emerging talents, with Juventus sporting director Ricky Massara already familiar with the player from his previous involvement with the French club.

Rennes could resist January offers

Despite Juventus’ interest, Rennes may prefer to retain Nagida until the end of the season, particularly as several clubs continue to monitor his development.

Tuttosport reports that the French side could consider a sale next summer if they receive a sufficiently attractive offer. Juventus are also assessing other options as they look to strengthen their left-back position.

Nagida joined Rennes in 2023 and has steadily developed into a first-team option. His pace, ball-carrying ability, crossing and defensive work have made him an appealing prospect for clubs seeking an attacking full-back.

The Cameroon international has accumulated senior experience in France and continues to develop his game at both ends of the pitch.

Juventus face competition for Nagida

Juventus are not the only club monitoring the defender, with interest from other European sides reportedly increasing following his recent performances.

His versatility and potential make him an attractive long-term prospect, although no formal offer has been confirmed.

For now, Nagida remains focused on Rennes, while Juventus continue evaluating their options ahead of the next transfer windows.

A move in January cannot be ruled out, but a summer transfer currently appears more plausible if Rennes decide to cash in on their promising defender.
