Iliman Ndiaye assists Haaland as Manchester City draw with Aston Villa
Iliman Ndiaye set up Erling Haaland’s equaliser as Manchester City came from behind to draw 1-1 with Aston Villa in their Premier League meeting on Saturday.
The Senegalese forward provided the assist in the 53rd minute, helping the visitors respond after falling behind early in the eighth-round fixture at Villa Park.
Aston Villa had taken the lead through Nicolas Jackson in the sixth minute, with the striker finding the net to give the home side an early advantage.
Manchester City went into the break trailing but found a way back into the contest shortly after the restart. Ndiaye supplied Haaland, who finished the opportunity to bring the score level at 1-1.
The assist continued Ndiaye’s productive start to the campaign, with the forward now having registered two assists in the Premier League and one in the Champions League.
All three of his assists across the two competitions have been for Haaland, highlighting the connection between the Senegalese attacker and the Norwegian striker in front of goal.
Ndiaye continues to create chances for Haaland
Ndiaye’s latest contribution came at an important moment for Manchester City, who needed a response after Jackson’s early strike put Aston Villa in front.
The forward’s ability to find Haaland in a scoring position helped the visitors restore parity eight minutes into the second half.
For Haaland, the goal provided Manchester City with the equaliser after Villa had held their advantage through the opening stages of the match.
Ndiaye’s assist also increased his tally in the Premier League to two for the season, adding to the one he has recorded in the Champions League.
The fact that all three assists have resulted in goals for Haaland is a notable feature of his contribution to Manchester City’s attacking play this campaign.
Manchester City respond after early setback
Aston Villa had made the stronger start to the contest, with Jackson’s sixth-minute finish giving them an early lead in front of their home supporters.
Manchester City, however, managed to find an answer after half-time, with Ndiaye and Haaland combining to prevent the hosts from maintaining their advantage.
The equaliser ensured that Manchester City recovered from the early setback, while Ndiaye added another assist to his growing record across domestic and European competition.
His latest contribution against Aston Villa continued a run of creative performances in which Haaland has been the recipient of each of his three assists this season.
The 1-1 scoreline left the two sides level after a match in which Aston Villa struck first before Manchester City responded in the second half.
