Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany is expected to miss upcoming matches after being taken to hospital following a collapse at the club’s training ground on Friday.

The 40-year-old Belgian fell ill while watching a training session involving Bayern’s reserve team at Säbener Straße. The club confirmed that he was receiving medical attention and would remain in hospital for further examinations. His condition was reported to be stable.

The incident has raised concerns about Kompany’s availability, particularly with Bayern preparing for Sunday’s Bundesliga away fixture against SC Freiburg.

The coach had recently been battling a viral infection and admitted after Wednesday’s 2-2 Champions League draw against Arsenal that he had pushed himself too hard while unwell.

“Last week I got a pretty nasty virus and, of course, I didn’t listen to my body. At some point, my body said: ‘Now stop!’” Kompany explained after the Arsenal match.

Sports journalist Walter M. Straten, deputy editor-in-chief of BILD Sport, believes Kompany should not return to the dugout immediately.

“I certainly don’t see him on the bench on Sunday. I can’t imagine that,” Straten said, expressing doubt about the coach’s availability for the Freiburg fixture.
