Christopher Nkunku a doubt for RB Leipzig’s clash against Elversberg

RB Leipzig are sweating over the fitness of Christopher Nkunku ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga home fixture against SV Elversberg after the forward missed Friday’s team training with adductor problems.

The 28-year-old Frenchman is facing a late fitness test as head coach Martín Demichelis assesses his availability for the encounter at the Red Bull Arena.

“Nkunku couldn’t train on the pitch today because of adductor problems. It’s nothing serious, but we have to see whether he can be involved tomorrow or not,” Demichelis explained during his pre-match press conference.

Although the initial assessment suggests the problem is not serious, Leipzig will wait to determine whether the forward can feature against Elversberg.

Nkunku’s potential absence would be a setback for Leipzig, given his contribution to the team’s attack this season. He has registered four goals and one assist in six Bundesliga appearances, making him an important option in the final third.

The uncertainty comes at a challenging time for Leipzig, who are looking to respond after suffering heavy defeats against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Demichelis will hope to have Nkunku available as his side seek to return to winning ways in front of their home supporters.

A final decision on the Frenchman’s involvement is expected closer to kick-off on Saturday, with the coaching staff unlikely to take unnecessary risks if he has not recovered sufficiently.

For now, Nkunku remains doubtful, and Leipzig must prepare for the possibility of facing Elversberg without one of their key attacking players.
