Police investigate burglary at Bruno Fernandes’ home after Manchester United’s heavy defeat
Police are investigating a burglary at the home of Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, which was reported as he returned from Italy with the club following their 1-4 defeat by Como in the Champions League.
Fernandes’ family were not at the property when the incident occurred, according to ESPN. Officers attended the address shortly after the report was made, while Manchester United have offered their support to their captain.
Cheshire Police said reports of suspicious activity were received at about 20:30 on Wednesday, 21 October, in the Alderley Park area of Nether Alderley.
A police statement, reported by ESPN, said: “At around 8:30pm on Wednesday 21 October, police received reports of suspicious activity at an address in the Alderley Park area of Nether Alderley.”
It added: “The caller reported seeing three unknown men in the rear garden of a neighbouring property.”
The statement continued: “Officers attended the address but found no trace of the suspects on arrival. However, officers discovered that the property had been burgled and a number of items had been stolen.”
The force said an investigation had begun and that inquiries were continuing.
Detective David Jarvis, from the Macclesfield Proactive Investigation Unit, said the inquiry was still at an early stage and officers were working to identify those responsible.
“This investigation is still in its early stages and we are committed to doing everything we can to track down those responsible,” he said.
“As part of our inquiries, we would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and believes they may have seen any suspicious activity.
“The same applies to anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage that could assist the investigation.”
The burglary report followed a difficult night for Manchester United in Lombardy, where they suffered a heavy defeat against Como, the team managed by Cesc Fabregas.
The result extended Manchester United’s run without a victory to seven matches. It also led Fernandes to publicly question the approach of his manager, Michael Carrick.
No further details about the stolen property or the identity of those responsible have been released.
