Vinicius Junior is prepared to strengthen his commitment to Real Madrid after turning down the prospect of a lucrative move to Arsenal, with his representatives suggesting the Brazilian forward could spend the remainder of his career in the Spanish capital.
Arsenal made an approach to the 26-year-old’s representatives during the summer transfer window to assess his willingness to leave the Santiago Bernabeu, reportedly offering him £18.5 million per season in a deal that would have made him the highest-paid player at the Premier League club.
The interest presented Vinicius with a significant career decision, particularly with his previous Real Madrid contract due to expire in 2027. However, he ultimately opted to extend his stay with the Spanish giants until 2032, bringing an end to speculation over a potential switch to north London.
His agent, Michael Yormack, has now revealed the extent of Arsenal’s pursuit while insisting that his client’s long-term ambitions remain firmly tied to Madrid.
Arsenal made aggressive push for Brazilian
Yormack confirmed that Arsenal were serious about securing Vinicius’ services and worked actively to convince the forward to consider a move to the Premier League.
“Arsenal were very involved. They were very aggressive,” he said, as reported by Sports Boom.
The Gunners’ reported willingness to offer £18.5 million per season underlined the scale of their interest in the Brazilian, who has established himself as one of Real Madrid’s leading attacking players.
With his previous deal approaching its final year, the possibility of a departure created an opportunity for Arsenal to test the waters over a transfer that would have represented a major statement of intent.
However, Real Madrid ultimately retained the forward, who chose to continue his career at the club where he arrived as a teenager.
Yormack believes that decision reflects more than the financial considerations surrounding a potential move, pointing instead to Vinicius’ emotional connection with the Spanish capital.
“Vini’s heart is in Madrid, that’s where he’s always wanted to be, and that’s where he hopes to be for the rest of his career. I don’t think there was ever a question.”
Vinicius considered Arsenal move
Despite his commitment to Real Madrid, the Brazilian was willing to listen when Arsenal presented their proposal.
Yormack acknowledged that the prospect of joining the north London side was worthy of consideration, given the attention and ambition demonstrated by the Premier League club.
“Did he ever seriously consider Arsenal? Of course. When a team like Arsenal rolls out the red carpet for you, and makes you feel really wanted, then obviously you have to listen.”
The admission offers an insight into how close Arsenal may have come to persuading Vinicius to consider a new challenge outside Spain.
However, the forward’s established position at Real Madrid and his desire to continue building his legacy at the club ultimately proved decisive.
Grant Veitch, another of Vinicius’ representatives at Roc Nation Sports International, also highlighted the importance of the Brazilian’s relationship with the Spanish giants.
“With Vini, he went to Madrid at a very young age, and I think there’s an element of comfort, wanting to be there and wanting to build something at Real Madrid,” Veitch said.
“There were other opportunities that arose. But I think the level of comfort he has, and already being a star at Real Madrid, it kept him there, and he wanted to stay.”
Madrid future looks increasingly secure
Vinicius’ decision to sign a new contract until 2032 provides Real Madrid with greater security over the future of one of their most prominent players.
Although Arsenal’s approach demonstrated the Premier League’s appeal, the Brazilian appears determined to continue his development in Madrid rather than pursue a move elsewhere.
With his representatives emphasising his desire to remain at the club for the long term, Real Madrid can look ahead with renewed confidence that their forward intends to build on his achievements in Spain.
Arsenal, meanwhile, must turn their attention to other targets after their pursuit failed to produce a deal, with Vinicius choosing continuity at the Bernabeu over a potentially lucrative move to England.
