Former Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu FC midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe has joined Flamingo FC, a team competing in the SAFA King Cetswayo Regional League Stream B.

The 33-year-old has been outside the professional game for more than a year, having left KwaZulu-Natal-based Richards Bay in February last year. Flamingo FC have now confirmed the arrival of the KwaZulu-Natal-born player as they target promotion to the third division.

Sithebe brings top-flight and international experience to the fourth-division club, having represented Bafana Bafana twice in 2020.

His most productive spell came with AmaZulu FC, where he established himself as an important midfielder before earning a move to Kaizer Chiefs. Sithebe made 132 appearances for AmaZulu, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists.

He was regarded as a potential star after moving to Chiefs, but his time at the club did not reach the expected level. He played 39 matches in all competitions without scoring.

Sithebe subsequently joined Richards Bay in an attempt to revive his career. However, he found opportunities limited and made only eight appearances before departing to join Mbombela United.

His period away from a professional setup has now ended with the move to Flamingo FC, where his experience is expected to support the club’s push for promotion.
