Wydad Athletic Club have reached an agreement with Portuguese coach Sergio Paulo to terminate his contract by mutual consent, with the coach receiving 80 million centimes in compensation, according to sources cited by Africasoccer.

The agreement was reached during a meeting on Tuesday between Wydad president Ibrahim Al-Asri and Paulo, bringing an end to the Portuguese coach’s association with the Moroccan club.

The financial settlement clears the way for Wydad to pursue a new appointment as they seek to improve their results and performances during the current season.

Nabi emerges as leading candidate for Wydad job

Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi is the leading candidate to replace Paulo and is expected to arrive in Casablanca on Wednesday evening.

Wydad’s management is hoping his appointment will help the team return to winning ways and deliver stronger performances in the coming months.

Nabi brings experience from several African clubs and previously coached Morocco’s Raja Casablanca before leaving ahead of the current season.

Nabi’s previous spell at Raja

The Tunisian coach’s time at Raja ended following tensions and disagreements with Portuguese sporting director Ruggero Matias.

He is now being considered for the Wydad position as the club looks to begin a new chapter following Paulo’s departure.

Wydad will hope the anticipated change in leadership helps them achieve their objectives for the remainder of the season.
