Simba SC thrash 15 de Agosto 6-1 away to close in on CAF Champions League group stage qualification
Simba SC produced a ruthless attacking display to thrash 15 de Agosto 6-1 away from home on Wednesday, taking a significant step towards securing a place in the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
The Tanzanian giants demonstrated their attacking quality and clinical finishing to record an emphatic victory, leaving their opponents with a mountain to climb ahead of the return leg.
Despite enjoying periods of possession early in the contest, Simba initially struggled to find a breakthrough against the home side’s resistance.
However, their persistence paid off shortly before the interval when Chilambo found the back of the net in the 43rd minute to give the visitors a crucial lead heading into half-time.
The goal provided Simba with the momentum they needed, and they returned from the break determined to extend their advantage and take greater control of the encounter.
Their efforts were rewarded in the 56th minute when Mpanzu doubled the lead, putting the visitors in a commanding position and increasing the pressure on 15 de Agosto.
Simba continued to exploit the gaps in the home side’s defence, with Doumbia getting on the scoresheet in the 65th minute to make it 3-0 and further strengthen the visitors’ grip on the match.
The Tanzanian side showed no signs of slowing down as Makgalwa added a fourth goal in the 72nd minute, turning an already difficult evening into a painful experience for the hosts.
With 15 de Agosto struggling to contain Simba’s attacking threat, the visitors maintained their intensity and continued searching for more goals.
Oura made it 5-0 in the 82nd minute, underlining Simba’s superiority and leaving the home side facing the prospect of a heavy defeat on their own ground.
Doumbia then completed his brace in the 88th minute, scoring Simba’s sixth goal of the evening to cap a dominant performance and put the result beyond doubt.
Although 15 de Agosto managed to score once, the consolation goal did little to change the overall picture, with Simba firmly in control after their impressive attacking display.
The six-goal haul represents a major boost for the Tanzanian outfit as they pursue qualification for the CAF Champions League group stage. Their ability to convert chances and maintain pressure throughout the contest proved decisive in securing such a convincing away victory.
The result leaves Simba in a strong position ahead of the second leg, where they will look to protect their substantial advantage and complete the job.
With a five-goal cushion, the Tanzanian giants can approach the return fixture with considerable confidence, although they will still need to remain focused to ensure their place in the next stage of Africa’s premier club competition.
