Vincent Kompany a doubt for Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash against Arsenal

Vincent Kompany is a doubt for Bayern Munich’s UEFA Champions League clash against Arsenal on Wednesday after falling ill with a virus, with goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and midfielder Joshua Kimmich also uncertain for the encounter.

Assistant coach Aaron Danks confirmed on Tuesday that Kompany was resting at home as the club monitored his condition ahead of the meeting at the Allianz Arena.

The potential absence of the Belgian comes at a crucial time for Bayern, who are looking to bounce back from last week’s 3-3 draw against Viking in Norway. Neuer has only recently returned from a minor injury, while Kimmich missed training for personal reasons.

“Vince has had a virus, and it is important for him to rest,” Danks said.

“So he is at home. We are taking it day by day. He will play his role in the game whether in the Allianz Arena or not.”

Kompany’s availability remains uncertain

Bayern are yet to determine whether Kompany will be fit enough to take his place on the touchline against Arsenal.

Danks indicated that the club would continue to assess the coach’s condition, adding that his involvement in preparations would not depend solely on his physical presence at the stadium.

The German champions will also be without suspended winger Michael Olise, adding to their concerns ahead of a demanding European fixture.

Neuer and Kimmich face late decisions

Neuer’s participation remains in doubt despite returning to training over the past two days following a minor injury.

Danks said no decision had been made on the goalkeeper’s availability, leaving Bayern waiting to establish whether their first-choice shot-stopper would be ready to face Arsenal.

Kimmich’s situation is equally unclear after the midfielder missed training on Tuesday.

“For Joshua, it is personal reasons. I am not sure what it means for tomorrow,” Danks added.

The uncertainty surrounding the two experienced internationals could force Bayern to make late adjustments to their plans as they prepare to host the Premier League side.

Bayern seek response after European setback

Bayern head into Wednesday’s encounter looking to recover from their 3-3 draw against Viking in Norway last week, but they have received a timely boost from their domestic campaign.

They demolished RB Leipzig 6-1 in the Bundesliga on Saturday, providing encouragement ahead of their Champions League assignment.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Kompany, Neuer and Kimmich, Danks insisted Bayern would be prepared for the different challenges Arsenal could pose.

“The key will be decided on small margins,” Danks said. “We have to be prepared for every aspect of the game.”

He also backed the work carried out with the squad over recent seasons and urged the players to express themselves confidently on the European stage.

“We trust the process and the work we have done with the players in the last couple of seasons. We want them to play fearlessly and express themselves.”

Bayern will hope to carry their Bundesliga form into the Arsenal encounter as they pursue a positive result despite the uncertainty surrounding several key figures.
