Club Bruges and Lens meet in crucial UEFA Champions League clash

The RC Lens travel to face Club Bruges at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, with both sides seeking a result that could strengthen their hopes of progressing in the UEFA Champions League.

The match is the third day of the league phase, and Club Bruges will be looking to build on an impressive away victory over Inter Milan in their previous European fixture. Lens, meanwhile, are aiming to recover from their home defeat by Sporting Portugal and return to winning ways.

Club Bruges produced one of the results of the second round when they beat Inter Milan 4-3 in a thrilling contest. Nicolo Tresoldi scored a hat-trick, while Romeo Vermant also found the net to secure a victory which revived the Belgian side’s campaign.

That result came after Club Bruges began the competition with a 3-2 defeat by Aston Villa. They will now hope their attacking form, combined with the support of the home crowd, can help them maintain their momentum against Lens.

The Belgian club’s performances have shown they can compete with highly regarded opposition, but they face a Lens side capable of causing problems when they are able to control the tempo of a game.

Lens seek a response

Lens opened their European campaign with a 3-2 away win against Slavia Prague. Their second match brought a different outcome, however, as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Sporting Portugal.

Pierre Sage’s side must improve both their defensive organisation and their finishing in the final third if they are to leave Bruges with a positive result. With every point potentially important in the league phase standings, Lens cannot afford to allow their opponents to gain confidence.

The fixture will also be the first competitive meeting between the two clubs. Lens will nevertheless face a Club Bruges team familiar with the demands of European football and determined to use home advantage.

Both teams have three points from their opening two matches and share the same immediate objective: closing the gap to qualification for the next stage of the competition. Club Bruges enter the game with renewed confidence after their win in Milan, while Lens are seeking a reaction following their defeat by Sporting Portugal.

The match will kick off at 19:00 GMT, or 21:00 in Belgium and France, at the Jan Breydel Stadium in Bruges.
