Achraf Hakimi PSG goal drought

Former Morocco head coach Walid Regragui jokingly teased Achraf Hakimi about his recent goal drought after Paris Saint-Germain defeated Barcelona 4-2 in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

The lighthearted exchange took place during Hakimi’s post-match interview with French broadcaster CANAL+, where Regragui was working as a pundit.

The Moroccan defender had admitted feeling exhausted after the match, prompting his former international coach to respond with a playful remark before congratulating him on his performance.

“Since when do you feel tired, Achraf? You never get tired!” he said, before turning his attention to Hakimi’s attacking contribution.

“I was very happy with your assist, although you haven’t scored in a long time, Achraf,” he added.

Hakimi admits frustration in front of goal

Hakimi, who appeared delighted to hear from his former coach, acknowledged that he had struggled to find the net despite creating opportunities.

“It’s true that I haven’t scored in a while. Even today, I had chances to score, but the ball just wouldn’t go in,” the PSG defender replied.

The exchange followed an impressive display from the Morocco international, who provided the assist for Fabian Ruiz’s 86th-minute goal to seal PSG’s victory at the Parc des Princes.

Hakimi’s contribution helped the defending European champions secure their third consecutive victory in the Champions League league phase, while Barcelona suffered their first defeat of the season.

Regragui backs Morocco captain to rediscover scoring touch

Regragui, who coached Hakimi during Morocco’s historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, reassured the defender that his goals would come again.

“The goal will come. I’m not worried about you,” he said.

The former Atlas Lions coach then ended the conversation with a humorous reminder about a promised meal.

“You’re inviting me out for a meal this week. Don’t forget!”

Hakimi responded with a smile and a simple promise: “Inshallah.”

The exchange offered a glimpse of the warm relationship between the two Moroccans, who shared a memorable period during the national team’s historic World Cup campaign in Qatar.
