Himad Abdelli has begun to change the course of his Marseille career after a difficult introduction to life at the club.
The Algeria midfielder was left out of the squad last spring and endured a particularly challenging period at the Canebiere. However, the 26-year-old has responded positively and is gradually establishing himself as a more important figure in the team, according to L’Equipe.
Abdelli has been given a fresh opportunity under Bruno Genesio and is now showing a different level of determination and ambition. His performances have become more purposeful, while his effectiveness in attacking areas has also improved as he looks to secure a regular place in Marseille’s midfield.
That persistence is beginning to produce tangible results. Abdelli has scored in each of his past two appearances, underlining his growing influence and renewed confidence in front of goal.
Earlier in this spell, he had appealed for a penalty during a period when he was still trying to find his rhythm. He now appears far more assured, and his recent displays suggest he is making the most of the opportunities coming his way.
Across all competitions this season, Abdelli has made nine appearances for Marseille, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
The midfielder is under contract with the Ligue 1 club until June 2030, giving him considerable time to build on his recent progress and establish himself among Marseille’s key players. His market value is estimated at €5m by Transfermarkt.
After a first period at the club that failed to meet expectations, Abdelli is now seeking to turn his move to Marseille into a success. His improved form has offered a marked contrast to the uncertainty surrounding his position earlier in the year.
Marseille’s next match will come in the third round of the Europa League league phase, when they face Sturm Graz. Abdelli will hope his recent run of form continues as the French side prepare for that fixture.
