Bayern Munich could be without manager Vincent Kompany, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and midfielder Joshua Kimmich for Wednesday’s Champions League meeting with Arsenal, assistant coach Aaron Danks said.
Kompany is suffering from a virus which has affected his legs at times, while Neuer has only recently returned from a minor injury. Kimmich also missed training on Tuesday for personal reasons.
“Vince has had a virus, and it is important for him to rest,” Danks told a news conference. “So he is at home. We are taking it day by day. He will play his role in the game whether in the Allianz Arena or not.”
Kompany’s involvement will therefore be assessed on a daily basis before Bayern’s home match against Arsenal.
There is also no final decision on Neuer, who has trained for the past two days following his injury. Danks said the goalkeeper’s availability remained uncertain, as did Kimmich’s.
“For Joshua it is personal reasons. I am not sure what it means for tomorrow,” Danks added.
Bayern will already be without suspended Michael Olise as they attempt to recover from last week’s disappointing 3-3 draw against Viking in Norway.
They go into the Arsenal match with renewed confidence after a 6-1 Bundesliga victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday, but Danks expects a closely contested game at the Allianz Arena.
“The key will be decided on small margins,” he said. “We have to be prepared for every aspect of the game.
“We trust the process and the work we have done with the players in the last couple of seasons. We want them to play fearless and express themselves.”
