At 35, Abderrazak Hamdallah continues to rewrite the record books in Saudi Arabia after becoming the first player to register 184 decisive contributions in the Saudi Pro League, moving ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and former leading scorer Omar Al-Somah.
Hamdallah reached the landmark on Friday when the Al-Taawoun striker headed in Mohammed Al-Kuwaykibi’s cross during a 1-1 draw with Al-Diriyah. His equaliser came in the 65th minute and took his league total to 159 goals and 25 assists.
According to the Saudi Pro League’s official figures, no player had previously reached 184 combined goals and assists since the competition became professional.
The Morocco international moved one contribution clear of Syria’s Omar Al-Somah, who finished with 183, made up of 161 goals and 22 assists. Hamdallah now needs only two more goals to draw level with Al-Somah at the top of the league’s all-time scoring chart.
Ronaldo, despite his outstanding form since joining Al-Nassr, has recorded 125 contributions in the competition. The Portugal captain did, however, surpass Hamdallah’s single-season scoring record in 2024, scoring 35 goals compared with the Moroccan’s 34 in the 2018-19 campaign.
Hamdallah’s latest achievement also underlines his remarkable consistency since arriving in Saudi Arabia in 2018. During that time he has represented Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, Al-Shabab and Al-Taawoun.
He won the league title with both Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad, while collecting a series of individual honours and maintaining his scoring record through a succession of clubs and managers. His goal against Al-Diriyah also made the side the 27th different opponent against whom he has scored in the Saudi top flight.
A contrasting international career
Hamdallah’s influence at club level has not been matched by his record with Morocco. His abrupt departure from the squad before the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations remained a damaging episode in his relationship with the national team. Herve Renard’s staff declined to explain the situation publicly at the time.
The striker was recalled for the 2022 World Cup but failed to score at the tournament. He later provided a more fitting reflection of his ability by scoring twice in the 2025 Arab Cup final with Morocco’s senior team.
That performance came shortly before he announced his international retirement following Morocco’s victory. Hamdallah will therefore be remembered as a Saudi Pro League legend, while also being regarded as one of the most significant unfulfilled talents in Morocco’s recent football history.
